The Cooking Begins
15 young girls from ethnic minority backgrounds across Leeds in West Yorkshire om Saturday July 2024 kicked off the first of eight cooking lessons with Chef Mirabelle as main facilitator
The dish they learnt to cook is the very popular Jolly rice, fruit salad and smoothie. Before the cooking started, the chef rice, mixed vegetable, oil. curry powder, prawns, garlic and ginger paste, garlic seasoning .
Funding for the project was made possible with a grant from The National Lottery Community Fund. Big Hope 4 All. a Leeds based female empowerment organisation provided the cooking traing for teenage girls from ethnic minority backgrounds
How to cook Jolly rice with Friend chicken
1)Wash chicken thoroughly.
2)Season chicken with the various seasonings n the ingredients list .
3)Boil the seasoned chicken for 15 minutes.
4)Save the chicken stock for later.
5)Air Fry the chicken for approximately 30 minutes.
6)Chicken should be ready to serve (move onto the rice).
Preparing Fried Rice
1)Boil the rice with salt and curry powder.
2)Add a cup of oil and fry one onion till it goes golden brown.
3)Add in your ginger and garlic mix then all your seasonings listed in the ingredients lists.
4)Add a packet of frozen vegetables into the onions and mix till the vegetables are cooked.
5)Mix the boiled rice and vegetables together in a big pot and the fried rice should be ready.
Preparing salad
1) Grate the vegetables starting with your carrots first, then lettuce, then cabbage, then cucumber.
2)Grate all your vegetables then mix.
3)Slice some eggs and mix it in with the vegetables.
4)Add your sauces and salad dressing and mix them together.
Preparing Smoothie
1)Put in a blender banana and mixed berries and blend it with yogurt and add milk if it is too thick.
